Word of the day: 15 They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their ancestors and the statutes he had warned them to keep. They followed worthless idols, and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had ordered them, “Do not do as they do.” 2 Kings 17:15 NIV

Meditation: Think about your idols. What can you do to make God over your icons that are not God?

Discussion Board: Israel had a habit always to forget God and worship things other than God. His patience with us can last a long time. We shouldn’t get caught up in things we shouldn’t idolize. We should always focus on being right for God. We never know when our time is up before he stops having faith in you. Money, cars, shopping, food, addictions, clothes, jewelry, social media, smartphones, and casual relationships are good examples of idols. Here is the good news about God. He will continue to pursue our hearts. The way to know that is what you idolize does not make you happy, and your heart feels wrong. Your gut drop, you start feeling guilty. That is God pursuing your heart and trying to soften it. Take the opportunity to let go of somethings and get your heart to assuage, not hardened.

Prayer: Father, our idols are not things you want us to worship. We can have stuff, but not let it take over the love we have for the gods. I pray we can sacrifice those things for your love and worship. Thank you for your passion. In Jesus’ name. Amen!

My name is Darren. I started sharing devotions in June 2019. As one of the ministry leaders at my church. One reason why I started devotions is because of the lack of inspiration and motivation in our lives. It is hard to be encouraged with a lot of negativity going around. I invite you to be encouraged by the word of God. Our struggles can be personal, at the workplace, and the lack of community in our lives. When we go through hard times, we need the word of God. Please read them and be encouraged. I also started a podcast talking about racism and discrimination. Please take a moment to check that out as well. Afternoon Coffee Break with Darren Watts.
