The Plan God Doesn’t Want You To Know About

8-20 “I will not leave you orphaned. I’m coming back. The world will no longer see me in just a little while, but you’re going to see me because I am alive, and you’re about to come alive. At that moment, you will know absolutely that I’m in my Father, and you’re in me, and I’m in you.

21 “The person who knows my commandments and keeps them, that’s who loves me. And the person who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and make myself plain to him.”

22 Judas (not Iscariot) said, “Master, why is it that you are about to make yourself plain to us but not to the world?”

23-24 “Because a loveless world,” said Jesus, “is a sightless world. If anyone loves me, he will carefully keep my word, and my Father will love him—we’ll move right into the neighborhood! Not loving me means not keeping my words. The message you are hearing isn’t mine. It’s the message of the Father who sent me.

Verse 18: “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

Verse 18 study: Jesus meant the words, “I will come to you.” He went to heaven but made sure the Holy Spirit lives in believers

Verse 19: After a little while, the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also.

Verse 20: In that day, you will know that I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you.

Verse 21: He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me, and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.

Verse 19-21 studies: Why do we want to know the future? To prepare? Well, this is one of a few things God doesn’t want us to know about. But, nevertheless, God knows our lot, so we should have faith in him to guide us.

Verse 21 study: How can you prove you love God? Obey him. It shows you are committed to him.

Verse 22: Judas (not Iscariot) said to Him, “Lord, what then has happened that You are going to disclose Yourself to us and not to the world?”

Verse 23: Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him

Verse 24: He who does not love Me does not keep My words; the word you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s who sent Me.

Verse 22-23 studies: The disciples found it hard to understand why Jesus didn’t tell the world he is the Messiah, even though they expected Jesus to confirm an early kingdom and overthrow Rome. But a lot didn’t understand Jesus’ message. Since the Pentecost, the gospel of the kingdom was proclaimed in the world, but people are hesitant. So Jesus saved his most profound revelations of himself for those who love and obey him.

Father, I pray for us to be obedient to you. I pray that we can better understand you when we are obedient and faithful to you. Thank you for today’s lesson. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
