6-9 The disciples went and did exactly what Jesus told them to do. They led the donkey and colt out, laid some of their clothes on them, and Jesus mounted. Nearly all the people in the crowd threw their garments down on the road, giving him a royal welcome. Others cut branches from the trees and threw them down as a welcome mat. Crowds went ahead and crowds followed, all of them calling out, “Hosanna to David’s son!” “Blessed is he who comes in God’s name!” “Hosanna in highest heaven!”

10 As he made his entrance into Jerusalem, the whole city was shaken. Unnerved, people were asking, “What’s going on here? Who is this?”

11 The parade crowd answered, “This is the prophet Jesus, the one from Nazareth in Galilee.”

-Matthew 21:6-11 The Message

Verse 6: The disciples went and did just as Jesus had instructed them,

Verse 7: and brought the donkey and the colt, and laid their cloaks on them; He sat on the cloaks.

Verse 8: Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others were cutting branches from the trees and spreading them on the road.

Verse 8 study: This verse is one of the few places where the Gospels record that Jesus’ glory is recognized on earth. Jesus went in boldly declaring himself King, and the crowd joined him. But these are the same people that bowed to political pressure and deserted him in a few days. Today, we celebrate this event on Palm Sunday. The day should remind us to guard against superficial acclaim for Christ.

Verse 9: Now the crowds going ahead of Him, and those who followed were shouting,

“Hosanna to the Son of David;

Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord;

Hosanna in the highest!”

Verse 10: When He had entered Jerusalem, all the city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?”

Verse 11: And the crowds were saying, “This is Jesus the prophet, from Nazareth in Galilee.”

My name is Darren. I started sharing devotions in June 2019. As one of the ministry leaders at my church. One reason why I started devotions is because of the lack of inspiration and motivation in our lives. It is hard to be encouraged with a lot of negativity going around. I invite you to be encouraged by the word of God. Our struggles can be personal, at the workplace, and the lack of community in our lives. When we go through hard times, we need the word of God. Please read them and be encouraged. I also started a podcast talking about racism and discrimination. Please take a moment to check that out as well. Afternoon Coffee Break with Darren Watts.
