20-21 After sunset, he and the Twelve were sitting around the table. During the meal, he said, “I have something hard but important to say to you: One of you is going to hand me over to the conspirators.”

22 They were stunned and then began to ask, one after another, “It isn’t me, is it, Master?”

23-24 Jesus answered, “The one who hands me over is someone I eat with daily, one who passes me food at the table. In one sense the Son of Man is entering into a way of treachery well-marked by the Scriptures—no surprises here. In another sense that man who turns him in, turns traitor to the Son of Man—better never to have been born than do this!”

25 Then Judas, already turned traitor, said, “It isn’t me, is it, Rabbi?”

Jesus said, “Don’t play games with me, Judas.”

-Matthew 26:20-25 The Message

Verse 20: When it was evening, he reclined at the table with the twelve.

Verse 21: And as they were eating, he said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.”

Verse 22: And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another, “Is it I, Lord?”

Verse 23: He answered, “He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me will betray me.

Verse 23 study: In Jesus’ time, some food was eaten from a typical bowl into which everyone dipped their hands.

Verse 24: The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.”

Verse 25: Judas, who would betray him, answered, “Is it I, Rabbi?” He said to him, “You have said so.”

My name is Darren. I started sharing devotions in June 2019. As one of the ministry leaders at my church. One reason why I started devotions is because of the lack of inspiration and motivation in our lives. It is hard to be encouraged with a lot of negativity going around. I invite you to be encouraged by the word of God. Our struggles can be personal, at the workplace, and the lack of community in our lives. When we go through hard times, we need the word of God. Please read them and be encouraged. I also started a podcast talking about racism and discrimination. Please take a moment to check that out as well. Afternoon Coffee Break with Darren Watts.
