55-56 Then Jesus addressed the mob: “What is this—coming out after me with swords and clubs as if I were a dangerous criminal? Day after day I have been sitting in the Temple teaching, and you never so much as lifted a hand against me. You’ve done it this way to confirm and fulfill the prophetic writings.”

-Matthew 26:55-56 The Message

Verse 55: At that hour, Jesus said to the crowds, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to capture me? Day after day, I sat in the temple teaching, and you did not seize me.

Verse 55 study: The religious leaders could have arrested Jesus anytime but chose the nighttime. They were afraid of the crowds that followed him each day.

But they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.

-Matthew 26:5 ESV

Verse 56: But all this has taken place that the Scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled.” Then all the disciples left him and fled.

Verse 56 study: A few hours earlier, this band of men said they would rather die than desert their Lord.

My name is Darren. I started sharing devotions in June 2019. As one of the ministry leaders at my church. One reason why I started devotions is because of the lack of inspiration and motivation in our lives. It is hard to be encouraged with a lot of negativity going around. I invite you to be encouraged by the word of God. Our struggles can be personal, at the workplace, and the lack of community in our lives. When we go through hard times, we need the word of God. Please read them and be encouraged. I also started a podcast talking about racism and discrimination. Please take a moment to check that out as well. Afternoon Coffee Break with Darren Watts.
