41-44 The high priests, along with the religion scholars and leaders, were right there mixing it up with the rest of them, having a great time poking fun at him: “He saved others—he can’t save himself! King of Israel, is he? Then let him get down from that cross. We’ll all become believers then! He was so sure of God—well, let him rescue his ‘Son’ now—if he wants him! He did claim to be God’s Son, didn’t he?” Even the two criminals crucified next to him joined in the mockery.

-Matthew 27:41-44 The Message

Verse 41: So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying,

Verse 42: “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him.

Verse 43: He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’”

Verse 44: And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.

Verse 44 study: One of the robbers repented. Jesus promised him that he would join him in Paradise.

My name is Darren. I started sharing devotions in June 2019. As one of the ministry leaders at my church. One reason why I started devotions is because of the lack of inspiration and motivation in our lives. It is hard to be encouraged with a lot of negativity going around. I invite you to be encouraged by the word of God. Our struggles can be personal, at the workplace, and the lack of community in our lives. When we go through hard times, we need the word of God. Please read them and be encouraged. I also started a podcast talking about racism and discrimination. Please take a moment to check that out as well. Afternoon Coffee Break with Darren Watts.
