Nothing but Sin and Bones

5 1-2 Dear friend, pay close attention to this, my wisdom;

    listen very closely to the way I see it.

Then you’ll acquire a taste for good sense;

    what I tell you will keep you out of trouble.

3-6 The lips of a seductive woman are oh so sweet,

    her soft words are oh so smooth.

But it won’t be long before she’s gravel in your mouth,

    a pain in your gut, a wound in your heart.

She’s dancing down the perfumed path to Death;

    she’s headed straight for Hell and taking you with her.

She hasn’t a clue about Real Life,

    about who she is, or where she’s going.

-Proverbs 5:1-6 The Message

Warning Against Adultery

5 My son, be attentive to my wisdom;

    incline your ear to my understanding,

2 that you may keep discretion,

    and your lips may guard knowledge.

3 For the lips of a forbidden woman drip honey,

    and her speech is smoother than oil,

4, but in the end, she is bitter as wormwood,

    sharp as a two-edged sword.

5 Her feet go down to death;

    her steps follow the path to Sheol;

6 she does not ponder the path of life;

    her ways wander, and she does not know it.

Verse 3 study: An adulteress is a prostitute. Proverbs share many warnings against illicit sex for several reasons. First, the charm of a prostitute is used as any temptation to do wrong or leave the pursuit of wisdom. Second, sexual immorality is dangerous and still is of any kind. It destroys family life, interferes with a person’s ability to love, downgrades human beings, and turns them into objects. It can lead to diseases and wanted children. Third, it is against God’s law.

Verses 3-8 studies: Be on guard for people that use flattery and smooth talk that lead to sin. The best advice is to detour it and avoid conversation with those people.

My name is Darren. I started sharing devotions in June 2019. As one of the ministry leaders at my church. One reason why I started devotions is because of the lack of inspiration and motivation in our lives. It is hard to be encouraged with a lot of negativity going around. I invite you to be encouraged by the word of God. Our struggles can be personal, at the workplace, and the lack of community in our lives. When we go through hard times, we need the word of God. Please read them and be encouraged. I also started a podcast talking about racism and discrimination. Please take a moment to check that out as well. Afternoon Coffee Break with Darren Watts.
