“So, my dear friends, listen carefully;

    those who embrace these my ways are most blessed.

Mark a life of discipline and live wisely;

    don’t squander your precious life.

Blessed the man, blessed the woman, who listens to me,

    awake and ready for me each morning,

    alert and responsive as I start my day’s work.

When you find me, you find life, real life,

    to say nothing of God’s good pleasure.

But if you wrong me, you damage your very soul;

    when you reject me, you’re flirting with death.”

Proverbs 8:32-36 The Message

32 “And now, O sons, listen to me:

    blessed are those who keep my ways.

33 Hear instruction and be wise,

    and do not neglect it.

34 Blessed is the one who listens to me,

    watching daily at my gates,

    waiting beside my doors.

35 For whoever finds me finds life

    and obtains favor from the Lord,

36 but he who fails to find me injures himself;

    all who hate me love death.”

In Proverbs chapters 3-4, we read about a father’s instructions. What is wisdom in these two chapters?

  • Loving
  • Faithful
  • Puts Trust in the Lord
  • Puts God first
  • Turns away from evil
  • Knows what’s right
  • Listens and learns
  • Does what is right

Did you happen to notice the benefits of wisdom the father was displaying?

  • A long prosperous life
  • Favored by God and people
  • Reputation for good judgment
  • Success
  • Health
  • Vulnerability
  • Riches
  • Honor
  • Pleasure
  • Peace and protection.

Coming from chapter 8 and going into chapter 9, we are reading how wisdom speaks. This person who possesses knowledge and discretion hates pride, arrogance, and evil behavior. This person respects and fears God, gives good advice has common sense, loves correction, is teachable, and knows God. The benefits of wisdom in these two chapters are riches, honor, justice, righteousness, life, God’s favor, constant learning, and understanding.

My name is Darren. I started sharing devotions in June 2019. As one of the ministry leaders at my church. One reason why I started devotions is because of the lack of inspiration and motivation in our lives. It is hard to be encouraged with a lot of negativity going around. I invite you to be encouraged by the word of God. Our struggles can be personal, at the workplace, and the lack of community in our lives. When we go through hard times, we need the word of God. Please read them and be encouraged. I also started a podcast talking about racism and discrimination. Please take a moment to check that out as well. Afternoon Coffee Break with Darren Watts.
