6 Good character is the best insurance;
crooks get trapped in their sinful lust.
7 When the wicked die, that’s it—
the story’s over; end of hope.
8 A good person is saved from much trouble;
a bad person runs straight into it.
9 The loose tongue of the godless spreads destruction;
the common sense of the godly preserves them.
10 When it goes well for good people, the whole town cheers;
when it goes badly for bad people, the town celebrates.
-Proverbs 11:6-10 The Message
6 The righteousness of the upright delivers them,
but the treacherous are taken captive by their lust.
7 When the wicked dies, his hope will perish,
and the expectation of wealth perishes too.
8 The righteous is delivered from trouble,
and the wicked walks into it instead.
9 With his mouth, the godless man would destroy his neighbor,
but by knowledge, the righteous are delivered.
10 When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices,
and when the wicked perish, there are shouts of gladness.
Verses 7-8 studies: These two verses are a contrast of two paths of life, but it is not intended universally apply to everybody in all circumstances. God’s people are not exempt from problems or situations. Following God’s wisdom can rescue you from your troubles. A wicked person falls into their own traps. Good people will suffer but will be saved from eternal death.
Verse 9 study: The human mouth can be used as a weapon or tool. It can hurt relationships or build them up. Unfortunately, it is easier to destroy than to build. Anybody you meet today, tomorrow, or whenever, your words make a difference. What is your mouth? Construction or destruction?
