Word of the day: 2 Then you must set apart three cities of refuge in the land the Lord your God is giving you. Deuteronomy 19:2 NLT
We all have actions that we need forgiveness. That also comes with refuge. We need a safe place. In today’s verse, are there ways to handle those who accidentally kill? In today’s society, along with the culture in Moses’ time, the one thing that people love doing is taking revenge. Taking revenge is not the way God wants us to handle our situations. But for those that innocently kill someone, God set apart three cities of refuge. The purpose is for someone to flee to have a fair trial. If that person is innocent of intentional murder, then they can stay there to be safe from others seeking revenge. There is no one walking free and then having to fear that someone will seek revenge.
An example is a woman defending herself against an abusive man. God’s love for us is fantastic to have a refuge to take place in certain cities. There are people out there that are looking for the same thing, a sanctuary. How are we going to handle someone that needs refuge? God provides the perfect example in handling those situations. As we start the celebration of Easter, let this be one of many things to give God glory and praise.
Father, thank you for today. I pray for those that need your protection. There are so many people ready to seek revenge on others. We know that is not the answer to the problem as you say not to seek revenge. Vengeance is yours. Thank you for your love for us. Thank you for our fellowship. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
