27 Jesus resumed talking to the people, but now tenderly. “The Father has given me all these things to do and say. This is a unique Father-Son operation, coming out of Father and Son intimacies and knowledge. No one knows the Son the way the Father does, nor the Father the way the Son does. But I’m not keeping it to myself; I’m ready to go over it line by line with anyone willing to listen.

28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

-Matthew 11:27-30 The Message

Verse 27: All things have been handed over to Me by My Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father; nor does anyone know the Father except the Son, and anyone to whom the Son determines to reveal Him.

Verse 27 study: In the Old Testament, “know” means more than knowledge, implying an intimate relationship. The main core of God the Father and God the Son is communion. It’s Son’s choice for God to reveal himself to that person for anyone else wanting to know God. We are fortunate that Jesus clearly showed us to God, his truth, and how we can understand him.

Verse 28: “Come to Me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Verse 29: Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Verse 30: For My yoke is comfortable, and My burden is light.”

Verses 28-30 studies: Yoke is a heavy wooden harness that fits over the shoulders of an ox or oxen. It is attached to equipment that oxen pull. We may be carrying heavy burdens of sin, excessive demands of religious leaders (23:4; Acts 10:15), oppression and persecution, or wearisome in search of God.

Jesus will free you from all these burdens. His promises are life, healing, and peace with God, not the end of all labor. A relationship with God changes meaningless, wearisome toil into spiritual productivity and purpose.

Father, we all have heavy burdens. I can’t sit here and lie; I have a lot of heavy burdens, especially things you are against, and it haunts me every day. I pray for understanding and love for these heavy burdens many of us carry. I’m sure I can relate to anybody having heavy loads. Let it be treated with empathy and understanding, and find the root cause instead of slandering others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
