Word of the day: 28 “At the end of every third year, bring the entire tithe of that year’s harvest and store it in the nearest town. 29 Give it to the Levites, who will receive no allotment of land among you, as well as to the foreigners living among you, the orphans, and the widows in your towns, so they can eat and be satisfied. Then the Lord, your God, will bless you in all your work. Deuteronomy 14:28-29 NLT
In the NIV, verse 28 say, “at the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns.” Why does the bible instruct us to do that? Because we can tackle poverty that happens around us. We can help people that are helpless, hungry, or poor. The bible also tells us to do this so we can prevent the country from sinking. This country keeps falling into debt; there are so much arguing and debates about how to run the country. The bible instructs us on how to run the country. But who in our government is listening or reading the word? There is so much greed to try to put more money into their own pockets and not enough thoughtfulness. God counts on us to be giving. Deuteronomy 15:7a-8 says, “do not be hard-hearted or tightfisted toward them. Instead, be generous and lend them whatever they need.” I have seen more of this during the COVID-19 outbreak than anything. There are still some that are willing to make a profit out of it. More importantly, God will get them. Meanwhile, let’s continue to do our part and give generously. Amen.
Father, thank you for today. I pray for our country. There are a lot of disagreements, and greed that some government officials are doing what they can to make sure they keep everything. There may be some discouragement about us giving everything while most are being greedy. I pray for wisdom that we can recognize that what we are doing will come back with good karma by you. Thank you for our fellowship. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
